Travis D Ramsey

Author of What Was Meant To Fall

Navy veteran turned novelist writing high‑stakes stories where action, heart, and humanity collide.

The Story Behind the Story

Travis Ramsey spent his final Navy tour in near‑isolation on the island of Sicily. Far from his family and the familiar rhythm of traditional military life, he found himself with something he’d never really had before: time. Time to reflect on a 26‑year career. Time to sit with the weight of transition. And time to finally chase the story that had been bouncing around in his head for years.

What began as a single page written in a quiet Sicilian apartment slowly grew into his debut novel. From there, the momentum didn’t stop — he finished the first draft of his second book, and with Sicily still pulling at him, he began a third that brings the island’s atmosphere, beauty, and contradictions to life on the page.

Travis’s path to writing wasn’t traditional. Diagnosed with dyslexia at fifteen-years old after years of slipping through the cracks of a system that missed it, he learned early how to fight uphill. The Navy — through mentors, leaders, and the structure he once thought he lacked — became the place where he rebuilt himself. It’s where he learned discipline, resilience, and the belief that he didn’t have to be defined by any disability or limitation.

“I’m not a writer,” Travis says. “I’m a storyteller. I just do my best to put the stories in my head onto paper — and God willing, people will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed writing them.”

That experience — the distance, the quiet, the reflection, and the completely different pace of life — shaped not only the setting of his work, but the emotional core of it: stories about what we hold onto, what we let go of, and who we become when everything familiar falls away.

About the Book

What Was Meant To Fall is a survival story where action drives the plot, but the heart of the novel lies in what people cling to when everything familiar is stripped away. It’s a story built on tension, connection, and the quiet moments that reveal who we really are when the world stops giving us easy choices. And the best parts? They’re the ones you never see coming.

It’s a story about:

  • What we hold onto when everything starts to fall apart

  • The tension between control and surrender

  • And the cost of the choices we make when the stakes are high
